Experience: 4 – 6 Years

Industry: Investment Research / Financial Services

About the Role:

We are seeking an Associate – Fixed Income & Corporate Credit Research to support institutional investment teams in evaluating debt issuers, interpreting financial disclosures, and assessing the risk-return characteristics of credit investments.

The position requires a strong understanding of corporate finance, debt markets, and financial reporting, with an emphasis on converting complex issuer information into structured, evidence-based research.

The individual will work with financial statements, debt-related disclosures, capital structure information, and market developments to maintain accurate issuer assessments.

This role is suited to a finance professional who can independently investigate financial data, identify credit vulnerabilities, and produce well-supported research outputs for investment professionals operating across international markets.

Key Responsibilities:

– Examine corporate issuers and fixed-income securities to assess repayment capacity, financial stability, and potential exposure to credit deterioration.

– Analyse revenue trends, profitability, operating cash flows, working capital movements, and balance sheet strength to develop a comprehensive view of issuer fundamentals.

– Evaluate debt profiles, including outstanding borrowings, repayment schedules, refinancing requirements, secured and unsecured obligations, and creditor seniority.

– Interpret financial covenants and contractual provisions to determine how changes in an issuer’s performance could affect lender protections and debt repayment obligations.

– Reconcile financial figures extracted from corporate disclosures with reported results, supporting schedules, and contractual definitions to identify discrepancies.

– Examine annual filings, interim financial statements, bond offering documents, lender communications, and other issuer disclosures to establish a reliable analytical record.

– Investigate unusual financial movements, inconsistent disclosures, and missing information, documenting findings and escalating material exceptions where necessary.

– Prepare concise company performance briefs, quarterly results assessments, and credit commentary highlighting changes in financial strength and potential downside risks.

– Compare issuers against relevant industry peers using financial ratios, leverage measures, liquidity indicators, and operating performance benchmarks.

– Monitor developments in US and European debt markets, including issuer-specific announcements, refinancing activity, and sector trends that may influence credit assessments.

– Maintain accurate research records, supporting calculations, source references, and analytical documentation to ensure findings can be independently verified.

– Contribute to the improvement of financial data validation procedures by identifying recurring extraction errors and recommending refinements to analytical workflows.

– Coordinate with senior investment researchers and portfolio management teams to clarify data requirements and deliver research findings within agreed timelines.

– Organize competing assignments according to urgency and investment relevance while maintaining consistency in analytical methods and reporting quality.

Required Qualifications:

– 4 – 6 years of professional experience in credit research, fixed-income analysis, corporate finance research, or a closely related financial analysis function.

– MBA in Finance or an equivalent postgraduate qualification from a reputed institution; CFA qualification or progress toward the designation is advantageous.

– Strong knowledge of corporate financial statements, debt instruments, credit fundamentals, and financial risk indicators.

– Ability to analyse capital structures, debt obligations, covenant terms, and issuer-level financing arrangements.

– Familiarity with US and European financial markets and the reporting practices of companies operating within these markets.

– Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including financial modelling, formula-driven analysis, reconciliations, and comparative financial assessments.

– Experience preparing structured research notes, financial summaries, and analytical reports supported by verifiable information.

– Strong numerical reasoning and the ability to distinguish material credit risks from routine financial fluctuations.

– Ability to independently investigate discrepancies, document analytical conclusions, and manage deliverables with limited supervision.

– Excellent written communication skills, with the ability to present financial findings clearly and objectively.

– High attention to detail, professional integrity, and the ability to collaborate effectively with geographically distributed investment teams.

Preferred Skills:

– Familiarity with Bloomberg, S&P Capital IQ, LSEG Workspace, or similar financial information and research platforms.

– Exposure to bond documentation, leveraged finance, corporate debt instruments, or institutional fixed-income portfolios.

– Understanding of credit rating methodologies, financial ratio interpretation, and issuer risk-monitoring practices.

– Experience working with automated financial data extraction or validation systems used in institutional research operations.
