An asset acquisition strategy is the purchase of a company by buying its assets instead of its stock. An asset acquisition strategy may be used for a takeover or buyout if the target is bankrupt – this will enable the buyer to takeover the assets without taking over the debt. Usually, this needs to be approved by the debt-holders as it constitutes a material sale of assets defined under the Companies Act, 2013
